The School of Medicine at JCMU prepares the next generation of Physicians through education, research and innovation. The School of Medicine is also one of the most selective medical training programs in the nation and encompasses multiple programs, including Pre-medical Studies, Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), Medical Residency / Specialist Training, Clinical Fellowship Programme e.t.c. CLINICAL SCIENCE PHASE
After successful completion of the pre-clinical science phase of the medical program, students enter the clinical sciences phase of their medical degree program. the clinical sciences component consists of 84 weeks of clinical rotations through various medical specialties in hospitals within the University affiliate Teaching Hospitals and hospitals in Malta, New Zealand, United Kingdom, United States, Australia and abroad who have affiliated with James Cook Medical University During the clinical sciences phase of the medical programme, students will have 48 weeks of required core rotations in Surgery, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Obstetrics and Gynecology.
The remaining 36 weeks are elective clinical rotations and the student may choose which elective clinical rotations they wish to participate however 6 weeks of Emergency Medicine and 6 weeks of Neurology are compulsory elective clinical rotations.
